Save a Marine Mammal, Save a Planet

It is a great pleasure to share a list of movies and documentaries (with storylines) about fantastic sea creatures and their relationships with humans:

 Movies:

🐋 «Free Willy» (1993):

Fishermen separate a young orca whale (Willy) from his parents, and he ends up in a fishbowl at a marina. While there, he befriends the whale and teaches him tricks, something the trainer hasn't been able to do. Meanwhile, a street kid runs afoul of the law and gets caught vandalizing the marina, but his social worker gets him off the hook (so to speak) provided he cleans up his mess at the marina.

🐋  «Orca» (1977):

After witnessing his mate and child's death from Nolan's hands, Orca, the killer whale, goes on a rampage in the fishermen's harbor. Under the villagers' pressure, Nolan, Rachel, and an Indian sail after the great beast, who will bring them on his turf.

🐋 «Zeus and Roxanne» (1997):

Mary Beth is a marine biologist that gets annoyed when a dog called Zeus stows aboard her research boat. Nevertheless, she is intrigued when the intrusive canine makes best friends with her captive dolphin, Roxanne. She falls in love with Zeus' owner, Terry, a musician who rides a bike.

🐋 «Big Miracle» (2012):

In small-town Alaska, a news reporter recruits his ex-girlfriend - a Greenpeace volunteer - on a campaign to save a family of gray whales trapped by rapidly forming ice in the Arctic Circle. Based on a true story.

Documentaries:

🐋 «Blackfish» (2013):

Notorious killer whale Tilikum is responsible for the deaths of three individuals, including a top killer whale trainer. Blackfish shows the sometimes devastating consequences of keeping such intelligent and sentient creatures in captivity.

🐋 «The Cove» (2009):

Using state-of-the-art equipment, a group of activists, led by renowned dolphin trainer Ric O'Barry, infiltrate a cove near Taijii, Japan, to expose both a shocking instance of animal abuse and a severe threat to human health.

🐋 «Born to Be Free» (2016):

A revelatory investigative film made by three intrepid, free-diving journalists about the global trade in wild sea mammals. Their journey takes us to the most remote corners of Russia and witnesses, for the very first time, the shocking treatment that whales, dolphins, and walruses are subjected to as we discover the corruption at the heart of this cruel international business.

🐋 «Fathom» (2021):

Two biologists set out on an undertaking as colossal as their subjects: deciphering the complex communication of whales. Dr. Michelle Fournet and Dr. Ellen Garland journey to opposite hemispheres to uncover a culture eons older than ours.

🐋 «The Whale» (2011):

The true story of a young killer whale, an orca nicknamed Luna, who makes friends with people after he gets separated from his family on the rugged west coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
